Writing assignment - unit 3

Follow the steps to build a description of an event. You've also got the instructions on your Student's Book, pages 42-43.

1. Read the text and do activities 1, 3, 4 and 5. You can include them in the document below.


2. Write a description of an event (a concert, a show, a sports match, a wedding, a graduation...) that you have attended. Use 120-150 words. Download the document below to plan your writing before doing the final version.


Structure:
1st Paragraph -  Opening: states name, location, time and writer's opinion of event.
2nd Paragraph - Body: describes with more details what writer sees, hears, smell, tastes...
3rd Paragraph - Closing: concluding sentence and opinion.
Grading criteria:
Activities: 3p.
Writing:
  •     Writing plan: 1p. 
  •     Sentence structure: 1p.
  •     Grammar and vocabulary (specially adjectives and adverbs): 3,5p.
  •     Connectors and spelling: 1p.
  •     Content, adequation and cohesion: 0.5p.

Deadline: 
2nd Bat B, C: Tuesday 9th December.
2nd Bat A: Wednesday 10th December.

Writing assignment - unit 2

This is your second writing assignment. Follow the steps proposed to build a FOR AND AGAINS ESSAY. You've also got the instructions in your Student's Book, pages 30-31.

1. Open a Word document and write on it your FULL NAME AND GROUP.

2. Read the text and do activity 1 to identify the structure of a for/against essay.


3. Do activities 3, 4 and 5 on page 31 (SB) in your Word document.

4. Final task: write a for and against essay on the advantages and disadvantages of advertising (120-150 words). Use the model you've read. The Useful Expressions* will help you build it. Remember to follow the structure. Use simple grammar structures and write your own ideas and opinions

You can print it (I'd prefer that) or send it via e-mail. Remember to write your name and group on the document. I won't mark any anonymous work.

*these are the Useful Expressions. Please, pay also attention to these comments on the use of connectors...


Structure:

3rd Paragraph - Closing: summarises the topic and states the writer's opinion.
Grading criteria:
Steps 2-3 (activities): 3p.
Step 4 (writing):
    Appropriate content in each paragraph: 0.25p. - 1p. - 0.5p.
    Grammar: 3,5p.
    Connectors (addition and contrast, mainly) and spelling: 1p.
    Adequation and cohesion: 0.75p.

Deadline: 
2nd Bat B, C: Monday 27th October.
2nd Bat A: Tuesday 28th October.

Writing assignment unit 1

Here is your first writing assignment. Follow the steps proposed here to build an INFORMATIVE ESSAY.

You've also got the instructions in your Student's book, pages 18-19.

1. Open a Word document to do all the activities proposed. Save it with your name.

2. Read the informative essay below and identify the connectors of cause and result (copy them in the Word document). Use a dictionary to look up the words you don't know.


3. Do activities 3-4 on page 19 (SB) in your Word document..

4.  Final task: write an informative essay on an invented language such as Esperanto, Klingon, Interlingua... You'll need to do some research to find important and relevant facts for your essay. You can also use the "useful expressions" on page 19.

Write 100-130 words using the model. Send Charo the document with all the tasks.

Structure:
1st Paragraph -  Opening: introduces the topic.
2nd Paragraph - Body: develops the topic with facts.
3rd Paragraph - Closing: summarises the topic.
Grading criteria:
Steps 2-3 (activities): 2.5 p.
Step 4 (writing):
    Organisation in paragraphs: 0.75p.
    Appropriate content in each paragraph: 0.5p. - 1.5p. - 0.25p.
    Grammar: 3p.
    Connectors (cause and result, mainly) and spelling: 1p.
    Adequation and cohesion: 0.5p.

Deadline: 
2nd Bat B, C: Friday 3rd October
2nd Bat A: Tuesday 7th October
